Manny Knows

I know what it feels like to do without a home, to do without food. I know what it's like to go hungry. That was me for the first half of my life. Yes I knew hunger, homelessness, and what it was like to want to go to school but unable to do so. Life then seemed hopeless. I still sometimes find it hard to believe that I am now where I am.

Return of Tejo

About a week ago I found out my work was going to be published in two magazines, one in the United States and the other in Colombia. I never expected this, but that is how the publishing world is today, especially with a poor economy and the omnipresence of the Internet.

Last week the director and editor-in-chief of a cultural web magazine contacted me about publishing an article I had written on my blog in Bogota about Tejo. This magazine, Bogotadeo, is a publication of Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, located in downtown Bogota. It is made, almost entirely, by the students at this university. However, there are contributors like myself. I gave them permission to rerun a story and photos I did about a Colombian sport called Tejo, translating it into Spanish.

Spin Magazine

My brother's band, The Spanish Channel, appeared in Spin Magazine for placing in a national song contest. I took the photo above of my brother's band inside the elevator in the building where they rehearse in Manhattan.
