The Chosen Champion Trailer

The Chosen Champion Trailer from Brett Garamella on Vimeo.

Two weeks ago I flew to Chicago with my friend Patrick McGowan to shoot a documentary on Estaifan Shilaita, former Iraqi boxing champion who traveled to America in pursuit of a better life and religious freedom. Though his story is unique, Shilaita shares many of the same feelings of Iraqi refugees from around the world. We are hoping to finish this documentary by August so stay tuned.

A Coaching Legend

John Wooden died today at the age of 99. It is hard to say anyone was a better college basketball coach than Wooden. He won 10 national championships in 12 seasons at UCLA.

Basketball, however, is not the main reason why I admire Wooden. I like the way he taught his players to be good human beings. He had a great outlook on life. I like his seven-point creed that his father gave to him upon graduation from grammar school:

* Be true to yourself.
* Make each day your masterpiece.
* Help others.
* Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
* Make friendship a fine art.
* Build a shelter against a rainy day.
* Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day.

You can live a good life following those points. Wooden certainly did.
